Emo slaves

Alot of our daily life cyrcles around managing our emotions. We like to do things that make us feel good. Eat good food, see entartaining movies, have sex, be successful. Likewise, we avoid things that bring pain and disappointment. Sometimes it seems less obvious what our motivation is but I think the motivation behind every behaviour is that the end result will make us feel good or avoid feeling bad. This might seem obvious. But I think rarely we think about it.

The difficult thing about emotions is that a lot of it happens without our control. This is actually a scientific fact; that to judge something as emotional (good, bad) actually happens before we consciously perceive the thing.

So in a way, we are slaves to our emotions. Plato thought of emotions as wild horses that had to be tamed by the intellect. We get confused when our emotions conflict with our thoughts. There is probably a continuum of how much people can control their emotions with thoughts. But sometimes, everybody falls short of control. Depression and anxiety being uncontrollable emotions that permeates our thinking as well. There are much richer connections from emotionally involved ares in our brain to higher thinking areas then the other way around. Too bad.

I think I have found my passion. And that is passion. Emotions are the sources of our dreams and our nightmares. I would like to conclude that without them, life wouldn't be worth living. And without pain, there would be no joy.
